Podium results in all races. delivered the overall event win to Tim Gibbon’s flying Warrior narrowly pipping the Tom Teggart-skippered Perseverance to second place. Last year’s overall winner Supersonic completed the podium. Warrior also took the YTC class win but under CLYC racing rules, the trophy went to Perseverance.
At a post-race presentation, Colum McAvoy presented the coveted Whistledown Trophy to the Warrior crew. The Whistledown Hotel has sponsored the Warrenpoint Open Regatta since 2003 and on behalf of the cruiser racing fleet, Gerry Byrne, event coordinator, thanked Colum for his support over twenty years.
Gerry Byrne had previously been thanked on behalf of all CLYC members by Catherine McDonagh, CLYC Commodore, for his contribution over the last 20 years to sailing on Carlingford Lough. Catherine said that she had been on the committee with Gerry over the years and knew that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to organise regattas.
